Vocal/General Music

Welcome to the Vocal Music web page!

My name is Amy Carter and I am excited to be a part of the WONDERFUL music program and community here at Village!!!  In addition to teaching weekly general music classes for all of 5th grade and half of the 4th grade, I also conduct the 4th and 5th grade choruses.

In general music classes, students will learn basic music literacy skills, healthy vocal habits, folk dances/movement, how to use instruments, and composition techniques while enjoying and experiencing music from various cultures and time periods.  My goal is to teach your child how to enjoy, appreciate, perform, listen to and read music with an educated ear, while having fun in the process!

Chorus meets during the ensemble period (1st or 8th period depending on your child's schedule), twice weekly for both 4th and 5th graders.  Participation in the chorus program provides your child with an opportunity to sing in a variety of musical styles, in different languages, and to learn how to follow a two or three-part musical score.  Working together with peers toward the common goal of performing as an ensemble makes chorus a unique and valuable experience.

As the year progresses, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns that you may have.

The characteristics of a good musician can be summarized as follows:

    1.  A well-trained ear
    2.  A well-trained intelligence
    3.  A well-trained heart
    4.  A well-trained hand.
