5th Grade Health Education

Welcome parents and students to the Health Education program for the West Windsor- Plainsboro, 5th grade level.  Weekly,  health education lessons are provided for all 5th grade students in both Millstone River School and Village School.

Health classes are planned to provide a series of integrated units, reflecting the required New Jersey State Core Content Standards. We also incorporate the 21st Century Competencies to increase the effectiveness of this dynamic learning.

The WW-P Health Education program is designed to assist students to develop positive behaviors and attitudes that will lead to a lifetime of wellness.  The focus is on the development of knowledge, skills and decision-making which  influence healthy behaviors within the context of self, family, school and community.

In 5th grade health class this year, we will be working on developing personal responsibility for our own health as an essential step toward developing and maintaining a healthy, active lifestyle. We will focus on the question –“How can I take care of my growing body?”.  We will  be studying the dynamic process of growth and change during puberty.  Students will explore personal decision making to care for their own changing body successfully and happily.

Students will also practice personal problem solving within their peer group – recognizing the influence of media, technology and strong peer pressure upon this process.  This entire year’s work should help develop responsible, capable, self-directed learners and personal wellness advocates.

An individual student folder is kept for your review at anytime.
